With Valentine’s day, the topic of love is in the minds of many. When we are truly loving to ourselves, we can project that outward and give this love to others as well as attract love into our lives. This guided meditation can be used to create a sense of loving kindness towards yourself as well as greater self-compassion.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the awareness of the present moment while paying attention to our mind and body without any judgement.
Mindfulness meditation is unique in that it is not directed toward getting us to be different from who are how we are right now. Instead, it helps us become aware of what is already true moment by moment and accept it without any judgment.
Mindfulness meditation is uses breath work to bring us back to present moment awareness. It is in the present, that we can be aware and respond to anything
What are the effects?
Since the inception of MBSR in 1979, over 15,000 studies have been conducted by over 250 independent research institutes showing Mindfulness Meditation to be clinically effective for the management of stress, anxiety and panic, chronic pain, depression, obsessive thinking, strong emotional reactivity, and a wide array of medical and mental health related conditions. The University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Center for Mindfulness Stress Reduction program’s have shown “a 35% reduction in the number of medical symptoms and a 40% reduction in psychological symptoms.”
What to expect?
Meditations are between 30-40 minutes. We will begin and each meditation with deep breathing techniques for deep relaxation and end with grounding techniques as well as an appreciation practice to close.
Please bring a cushion or yoga mat. You are welcome to sit or lay down for the meditations or a combination. Additionally, you can bring whatever you need to be comfortable i.e. water, sweater, blanket, pillow, bolster etc.
